The Central Valley Central School District Foundation has again stepped up to enrich the education of Central Valley students.

Jarvis "Mission Space Program"

The Foundation recently donated $1,207 from its latest fundraiser to help offset the costs of Jarvis Middle School’s "Mission Space Program," bringing its total contribution for the project to $2,413.

Named after the school’s namesake, Gregory B. Jarvis, the program provides students with a deeper connection to his legacy. This contribution will allow 28 students—selected from more than 200 essay contest applicants—to spend a day at the Challenger Learning Center in Rochester. There, they will participate in a "Mission to Mars" simulation designed to strengthen their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills. The day will conclude with lunch and games at Dave & Buster’s.

Honoring a Legacy

Gregory Jarvis, a 1962 graduate of Mohawk Central School, was a U.S. Air Force Captain and Hughes Aircraft engineer who tragically lost his life in the 1986 Challenger disaster. To mark the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, the district is reinforcing Jarvis’s legacy: that through hard work and perseverance, anyone can achieve amazing things.

Art Club trip to Spain

The Foundation donated $1,800 to help offset costs for an upcoming student trip to study art and culture in Spain. District art teachers Leslie Kubica and Amy Roepnack, along with Spanish teacher Keri White, presented the proposal to Foundation members and were notified of the generous contribution the very next day.

During this year's Spring Break, the three teachers and 18 students will embark on a six-day journey through Barcelona, Zaragoza, and Madrid. The itinerary is packed with historical and cultural landmarks, including the renovated Hospital de Sant Pau, the Basilica del Pilar, the Spanish Royal Palace, and the world-renowned Prado Museum. At the Prado, students will study masterpieces by Goya, Bosch, El Greco, Rubens, Titian, and Velázquez, while Spanish language students will have the chance to practice their conversational skills at every stop.

In announcing the gift, Foundation President JoAnn Duga praised the group’s initiative: "The Foundation members were impressed by your presentation and the extensive fundraising you have done on your own. This will be a wonderful experience for these students, and they are fortunate to have educators willing to dedicate their personal time to such an opportunity."

Proceeds from Central Valley CSD Foundation fundraisers make these donations possible. The Foundation supports students and faculty by providing funds for materials and activities not funded by the regular school budget. When you support the CVCSD Foundation, you support Central Valley students.
