On Wednesday, Oct. 23, parents, guardians, and school educators gathered for a luncheon at Hart's Hill Inn in Whitesboro to honor CVA's 2024 Academic Achievement Award recipients. To receive the honor, students must have maintained a 90 or higher average (High Honor Roll or Principal's Roll) for each of the four quarters of the previous school year. This year, 38 seniors, 17 juniors, and 24 sophomores earned the award.
CVA's National Honor Society and Senior Class president Jacob Miller kicked off the event by leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Keeler followed with opening remarks, praising parents and guardians for supporting the students and congratulating the students for their hard work. He also noted the support of The Mohawk Community Club and Day & Read, Inc. for underwriting the cost of the student meals. Following the buffet lunch, Assistant principal Danielle Hess again praised the students and staff. Guidance counselors Shannon Darrow and Michelle DelConte presented students with their awards as Mr. Keeler read their names.
"This award recognizes each student for his or her sustained academic accomplishment over the course of the prior year," Mr. Keeler later said. "These students, with the support of their families and the faculty and staff at CVA, continued to perform at the highest level regardless of job, family, and extracurricular commitments. They deserve this moment to shine."
