Board Goals

2026-27 Board of Education Goals

Goal 1

ATTENDANCE

By June 2027, the Central Valley Central School District will reduce the percentage of students who are chronically absent (defined as missing 10% or more of school days) by 5% from the 2025-2026 baseline, and reduce the number of students with five or more unexcused late arrivals per quarter by 10%, through the implementation of a K-12 attendance initiative focused on education, incentives, and accountability.

KEY STRATEGIES

  • Launch age-appropriate attendance incentive programs at the elementary and middle levels.
  • Tie attendance and punctuality to extracurricular participation at the high school level.
  • Enforce adjusted bell schedules and outside food restrictions at CVA.
  • Maintain regular communication with families through letters, newsletters, and ParentSquare.

Goal 2

FISCAL MANAGEMENT & BUDGET SUSTAINABILITY

By June 2027, the Central Valley Board of Education will support and monitor district efforts to generate savings that will be achieved through strategic actions such as personnel attrition, targeted reductions in non-essential programs and services, tighter department budgets, and controlled overtime spending.

To ensure transparency and shared decision-making, the administration will provide the Board with quarterly financial updates, including a running total of savings achieved. As potential cost-saving measures arise, the Board will be consulted and asked to determine whether specific programs, services, or positions should be retained or reduced, balancing fiscal responsibility with district priorities.
In addition, the Board will monitor the impact of the district's K-12 attendance initiative on Average Daily Attendance (ADA) and state aid revenues, recognizing improved attendance as a key long-term strategy for fiscal stability.

Goal 3

PATHWAYS TO HEALTHY LIVING - BUILDING A CULTURE OF WELLNESS

During the 2026-2027 school year, the Central Valley Central School District will develop and implement a comprehensive Pathways to Health Living initiative that promotes the physical, mental, social, and academic well-being of students by strengthening communication between home and school, expanding wellness education, encouraging healthy nutritional choices, increasing opportunities for physical fitness, and fostering meaningful student connections.

PROGRESS WILL BE MEASURED THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS BY JUNE 2027:

  • Look at our district-wide communication framework that encourages regular communication among teachers, parents, and students regarding academic progress and student well-being.
  • Increase student education regarding nutrition and health decision-making through cafeteria messaging, classroom instruction, and wellness activities.
  • Expand mental health awareness through student programming, guest speakers, and wellness initiatives that promote resilience and positive coping strategies.
  • Implement or strengthen Check & Connect practices and other relationship-based supports to ensure students have meaningful connections with trusted adults.
  • Promote physical fitness by incorporating motivational opportunities such as the Presidential Fitness Test or similar age-appropriate wellness challenges.
  • Provide wellness-focused guest speakers and experiences for students that address physical health, nutrition, and mental wellness.

SUCCESS MEASURE:

By June 2027, all schools will have implemented components of the initiative and provide evidence of participation, programming, and implementation through semester administrative reports to the Board of Education.
