Academics

Central Valley School District strives to offer students programs and opportunities to enable them to graduate college and career ready.

Advanced Coursework Notification
New York State requires school districts to share with parents and students the benefits and opportunities of participating in advanced coursework. Gregory B Jarvis Middle School and Central Valley Academy both offer advanced coursework.

Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR)
Each year, New York state schools must evaluate the performance of their principals and teachers using a process called the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR). For more information:

  • APPR Agreement (PDF) – a letter from the NYS Education Commissioner approving the district’s APPR plan. Under NY education law, this letter is posted as evidence the district is in compliance with APPR requirements.

Requesting your child’s principal(s) and teacher(s) scores
Subsection 10 of Education Law §3012-d, known as the Annual Professional Performance Review law, requires districts to provide “conspicuous notice to parents and legal guardians of the right to obtain” the final quality rating and composite effectiveness scores for their child’s current principal(s) and teacher(s).

To request those scores, please complete an APPR Request Form (PDF) and submit it in person at the district office. To ensure this legally restricted information is released only to eligible people, you will be asked for a driver’s license or comparable photo ID to verify your identity.

Next Generation Learning Standards
Common Core Standards have been developed to provide a clear outline of what a student should learn to graduate college and career ready. Learn more about Next Gen Learning Standards.

New York State School Report Card (Accountability Report)
The New York State Report Card is an important part of the Board of Regents’ effort to raise learning standards for all students. It provides information to the public on school/district enrollment and staff, student performance, and other measures of school and district performance. Knowledge gained from the report card on a school’s or district’s strengths and weaknesses can be used to improve instruction and services to students.

Assessments—State and Local

The New York State Education Department requires all public school districts to administer state tests in English language arts, math and science to all students in grades 3-8. High school students in New York State are required to pass five Regents exams in order to graduate – in English, math, U.S. history & government, global history and one science subject area.

In addition, school districts administer other assessments to measure student progress, both from year-to-year and throughout the year.
